The NAACP DeKalb County, in conjunction with the Universal Connection Music Festival, will host its 3rd Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15, 2019. This great day of fun will take place inside Atlanta Sports City at Stonecrest - Tournament Central (formally Kohl's Department Store) in Stonecrest, GA with live music featuring Blues, R&B and Jazz starting at 10:00 am. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Word didn't reach the slaves of Galveston, Texas, until June 19, 1865, when an army of two-thousand Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, arrived and informed them of their freedom. The slaves were so elated that they broke out in a celebration now known as "Juneteenth".  Since then the observance of Juneteenth has spread across the United States and beyond with a range of activities, such as festivals, parades, barbeques, rodeos, etc. Come join us as we continue in tradition with a celebration of live music, vendors and much more. In addition, we will have informative workshops that impact the African American community: Health, Veteran Affairs, Economic Sustainability, and Civic Affairs. Also, the NAACP DeKalb is partnering with Airbnb to provide you with information on "How to Be an Airbnb Host".   We welcome all DeKalb county residents, as well as friends, family and associates of DeKalb county residents, to attend this historical event.  Admission to the Juneteenth Celebration is FREE, however tickets to the Music Festival start at $15.  This part of the event will take place outdoors.  For more information on sponsorship and vendor opportunities or to become a volunteer, please contact the branch office at (404) 241-8006 or [email protected]
