The Etowah Film Festival manifested from a simple question: How is a city with such a beautiful theatre not hosting an amazing film festival? Canton, Georgia is only 30 miles north of Atlanta and home to the historic Canton Theatre. Its history dates back to 1911 when the theatre was a popular scene for silent movies. Canton has since become a popular location for recent Hollywood productions like American Made and Hidden Figures and the theatre still showcases movies and live theatrical productions. This festival takes its name from the Etowah River, which powered the textile mills that helped put the city of Canton on the map. In the spirit of the Etowah River, we are dedicating a block of films to exploring the preservation and protection of nature. This year, a portion of the proceeds of the festival will go to the Upper Etowah River Alliance, whose mission is to protect the Etowah River, one of the most biodiverse watersheds in the nation.
